I just got a new CAC card. How do I reset my Outlook email?
(Updated 20 Apr 2023)
To reset your Outlook certificate settings, please:
1. Go to the search box on the bottom-left corner of your screen (it has the magnifying glass)
- Type in INTERNET OPTIONS and then click on it
- Click the CONTENT tab on top of the window pop-up
- Click CERTIFICATES
- Click on ALL certificates and then click REMOVE
(Don't worry about the other users' certificates--it will repopulate when they log in with their CAC) - When done, click CLOSE --> OK
- Pull out your CAC card and wait for 30 seconds
- Log back in
2. Start OUTLOOK
- Click FILE --> OPTIONS --> TRUST CENTER --> TRUST CENTER SETTINGS --> EMAIL SECURITY
- Next to the DEFAULT SETTING field, click SETTINGS
- Click the DELETE button, then OK --> OK.
- Click SETTINGS again and then OK
- Type in your name in the SECURITY SETTINGS NAME field
- On the SIGNING CERTIFICATE row, click CHOOSE and then OK
- On the ENCRYPTION CERTIFICATE row, click CHOOSE and then OK
- Click OK to take you to the previous window (E-MAIL SECURITY)
- Click PUBLISH TO GAL
- Click OK and you should get a message that says your certificates were published to GAL
- Exit out of Outlook
- Run Outlook again. You should be able to open/send encrypted emails now.
If you need to access old emails that were encrypted, please submit a ticket and we will coordinate a time to provide remote assistance.
